Ep. 24 : Charles Lindbergh’s Crime of the Century

It's always disappointing to learn that our childhood heroes aren't always who they seem. Never was there a truer example than the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. With more than one skeleton in his closet, Lindbergh was famous for more than just flying non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1932, tragedy gripped the nation when his 20-month-old son Charles Jr. was taken through a nursery window. Thirteen ransom notes and monetary demands take us all over New York and New Jersey as we try to uncover the true kidnapper and investigate why they'd take sweet Charles. We'll unpack Lindbergh's lesser known history and reveal truths about America's "Lone Eagle" that he'd rather have left in the dark. At the close, Halee delights us with delicious Lucky Charms rice crispy treats. Happy Haunting!

Charles Lindbergh was a household name for his feats in aviation. But he had many other successes, and some pretty dark not-so-secret secrets.

Charles and his wife Anne Morrow had six children together.

Lindbergh and Anne were nazi sympathizers. Here he is receiving a metal from Hermann Göring himself. Funny how the history books left that part out!

Charles Lindbergh Jr. went missing on March 1, 1932. It would become known as the Crime of the Century.

The kidnappers first of many ransom notes asked for $50,000.

Pictured here is the home from which Charles Jr. was taken, the ladder the kidnapper used to escape, the window where the ransom note was supposedly found and newspaper clippings of the story that gripped the nation.

Bruno Richard Hauptmann was convicted of the kidnapping, but was he really the perpetrator?

Fingerprint analysis says he was, as seen here. Lindbergh is seen sitting in on the trail, one of the many ways he had his hands on the process.

Lori Ann Boffman mysteriously disappeared on August 5, 2006.
