Ep 1: Soul Cake

“Soul! Soul! A soul cake;
Good mistress, gi’us a soul cake!”

This spooky little soul cake is probably quite a bit different than the ones of old. Given out as good luck, these little cakes were generally made from seeds, spices and featured currants on top. One woman reportedly had a soul cake that was over 100 years old! Ours features a whole lot of chocolate and a dash of cute sprinkles and was definitely eaten immediately.😉

Here’s our recipe for a delicious chocolate soul cake:

- 4 tsp all purpose flour
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/8 tsp baking powder
- 1 dash salt
- 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 tsp water
- 2 tsp vegetable oil

Stir together all of your ingredients and pour into greased cake pans. Repeat the recipe for as many layers as you’d like. Our little cake is four!

Bake in your Easy Bake Oven for 13 to 15 minutes, or until you see the sides of the cake separate from the pan. If you don’t have an EBO, you can bake in your regular oven at 350 for just around 10 minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on it!

Make your favorite buttercream frosting (we just EYEBALL it, adding butter, cocoa, powdered sugar, vanilla and a few drops of milk until it feels just right) and then slather that baby in sugary goodness.

We’re only two days away from our next episode! Hopefully this sweet little treat is enough to tide you over. 🔪🧁
