Harmony Montgomery was last seen in October of 2019, and at that time she was 5 years old. Late last year, Harmony’s mother, Crystal Sorey, contacted police after trying without success to find her daughter. In the summer of 2018 Crystal lost custody and had to surrender Harmony to the state of Massachusetts, at which point custody was awarded to Harmony’s father, Adam Montgomery. Adam moved her to New Hampshire, and Crystal told police she had not seen Harmony since a video chat on Easter in 2019. Police determined that Harmony had been seen last at home in Manchester, NH, October of 2019. In December of last year, police made contact with Adam, who was at that time sleeping in a vehicle. He initially said that Harmony was fine and he had seen her recently, but later said he hadn’t seen her since her mom picked her up around thanksgiving of 2019. When police shared that there was concern Harmony may not be alive, he reportedly “did not exhibit much emotion or reaction to this” and eventually stopped answering questions.
Adam was arrested on January 4th on several charges, including a second-degree assault charge for punching Harmony, who is blind in one eye, in the face and giving her a black eye in 2019. Family members who witnessed the black eye say they contacted the local child welfare agency at that time. Charges also included child endangerment for failing to know where Harmony is. Adam has a history with the criminal justice system, including pleading guilty to shooting a man in a drug-related robbery in 2014.
Adam’s wife Kayla Montgomery was also arrested and charged with welfare fraud for continuing to collect food stamps in Harmony’s name despite not having Harmony in her custody.
